The Roller Coaster Life

The Roller Coaster Life

I love to ride roller coasters, always have.  Now that my son is big enough to ride them, anytime we can go to a theme park and ride them all day long is a good day.  As I’ve gotten older, there is one kind of roller coaster that I just can’t ride anymore.  Wooden roller coasters.  I love the speed, the ups and downs, but they are just too rough.  I get off of those things and my back, neck and knees are hurting for days.  That ever happen to you?

It’s funny how life can feel that way sometimes too.  It’s going really fast, has ups and downs and often just beats us down.  If we’re not careful, the life we live can have a profound effect on how we view God or even how we think God views us.

Paul writes in Galatians 2:20, “I have been crucified with Christ.  It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.  And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

As Christians, God sealed the deal for our relationship with Him.  On the cross, Christ settled once and for all the sin debt that we owed.  Having completed that work, we no longer have to wonder how He feels about us.  He’s crazy about you!  Life doesn’t have to be a roller coaster ride when it comes to our relationship with Him.  He loves us no matter what.  We can’t make Him love us more by doing the things we know He wants us to do and we can’t make Him love us less by losing focus and falling down.

Take comfort today in knowing that our failures do not define us.  Also realize that our acts of goodness do not define us in God’s eyes either.  We have been crucified with Christ and as we lay down our life, we can find peace in knowing that we are forever loved.  Why don’t you give the roller coaster a rest….
